FROM TRADE TO PROFESSION - A PROFESSIONAL FUTURE FOR PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION
The Association for Passive Fire Protection (ASFP) launched a landmark initiative to elevate passive fire protection from a trade to a recognised profession across design, specification, procurement, construction, installation, and post-occupation.
Through a series of presentations and panel sessions at Intersec, senior ASFP members and collaborators highlighted how the sector is professionalising—covering best practice guidance, improved product safety systems, formal competency frameworks, and registers. Topics included early engagement with manufacturers, regulatory alignment, fire door installation challenges, and evolving competency standards.
The sessions underscored the critical role of passive fire protection and why it must no longer be overlooked. Planning is now underway for the 2027 edition, with opportunities for continued thought leadership and professional development in the sector.
